The Employment and Training Corporation is giving the facilities of apprenticeship schemes which are an effective medium of vocational education and training in the same time.There are two schemes, mainly: 1. Technician Apprenticeship Scheme (TAS), and The employer and the ETC enter into an agreement laying down the rights and obligations of all parties during the apprenticeship. The apprenticeship offers various benefits, mainly it helps the students to gain working experience and a certificate is awarded, employers ensure an efficient and qualified workforce, and employers involve themselves in the national vocational education. Technician Apprenticeship SchemeThe TAS provides an apprenticeship to persons aged 16 and over. It gives the apprentices an occupational competence at technician level. Extended Skills Training SchemeThe ESTS offers a wide range of opportunities to young persons who are willing to learn a trade or a craftsman level. The present callings under the ESTS scheme are:
ConditionsThe hours of work does not defer from that of the normal. Apprentices are entitled to:
N.I.ContributionsUnder 18 years of age, 10% of the weekly wage up to a maximum of 4.38 Over 18 years of age, 10% of the weekly wage up to a maximum of 7.94
