Notice periods in Malta

Notice periods in Malta are calculated as follows:

Time of employmentNotice period
1 - 6 months1 week
6 - 24 months2 weeks
2 - 4 years4 weeks
4 - 7 years8 weeks
Over 7 yearsan additional 1 week for each year, up to a maximum of 12 weeks

When giving the notice the employee may either continue in employment until the end of the notice period or choose to pay half of the wages covering the un-worked notice period.
