Malta and the USA have finally signed a new double tax treaty. Whilst no details of the treaty itself have been issued, the treaty is expected to facilitate trade between Malta and the USA. Given Maltas excellence as a major European financial service provider, the treaty is expected to further boost the financial services sector, increase investment opportunities and create a base for non-European counterparts. The new double tax treaty was signed following the termination of the 1980 Malta-USA double taxation treaty and after several years of negotiations. The double tax agreement was signed at Auberge de Castille in Valletta, Malta by US Ambassador Molly Bordonaro and Hon. Tonio Fenech, Maltas Minister of Finance on Friday, 08 August 2008. Prior to entry into force the treaty awaits ratification from both States. For more information, kindly contact:Neville Cutajar - Managing Partner: neville.cutajar@3a.com.mt
